Baby Steps: Volunteering Opportunities

Help L.I.F.E. Houston make our 2nd annual Baby Steps: A Walk to Feed Hungry Babies a huge success! This family-friendly event takes place on May 20, 2017 at Lynn Eusan park on the University of Houston campus.


Do you want to help us feed hungry babies across the Houston area? Then help us make Baby Steps a smashing success!!


This is a great way for your family, friends, company, or community group to have fun and support families in the greater Houston area.

As a volunteer, you get a t-shirt and goody bag, plus access to a special volunteer area.

Please note: There will be a mandatory training the week before the event.



Check-in Table Team

The Check-in Table Team will help both volunteers and walkers. Duties include:

-- check-in volunteers and direct them to volunteer lead;

-- check-in walkers that registered before the event;

-- register walkers that are registering on-site;

-- collect any donations that were raised; and

-- hand out walk bags and t-shirts.


Ages 18 and up


Shift times: 1) 6:30 am - 9:30 am  2) 7:30 am - 10:30 am



First Aid Team

The first aid team will treat non-emergency and minor injuries. Ambulances will be called if major treatment is required.


*Must be CPR & First Aid certified – medical experience preferred*

Ages 18 and up


Shift times: 1) 6:30 am - 10:30 am & 2) 8:30 am - 12:30 pm




These volunteers will be responsible for managing the various food areas and supplying the water stations. Duties include:

-- setup water stations & food areas;

-- serve and maintain food areas during the event;

-- organize snacks and refreshments for route volunteers to take to the various check points; 

-- collect food related trash and water bottles from food areas & water stations;

-- deposit trash and recycling in the appropriate places; and

-- breakdown and clean up food areas and water stations


Ages 16 and up


Shift times: 1) 6:30 am - 10:30 am & 2) 8:30 am - 12:30 pm



Route Wrangler

Our Route Wranglers are responsible for setting up, managing, and taking down the route. This includes maintaining the water stations and cheering on our walkers!  Duties include:

-- set up walk route markers, check points, and checkpoint signs;

-- cheer on walkers as they arrive the checkpoints and offer water and snacks;

-- notify hospitality team when water & snacks run low;

-- report any injuries along the walk route to first aid; and

-- break down the walk route and clean up any trash.


This volunteer position is great for families and groups! There will be three check points along the route. Volunteers will be distributed among the three points.


All ages welcome


Shift time: 7 am - 10 am



Fun Zone Friends

These volunteers are responsible for setting up and staffing the post-walk celebration. Activities include face painting, kids’ crafts, and a bounce house. Duties include:

-- set up activities;

-- facilitate activity setup for vendors;

-- help supervise children using the bounce house;

-- report any and all problems or injuries to the host/hostess and to first aid (as needed);

-- take down activities; and

-- make sure area is cleaned of trash


Ages 16 and up


Shift times: 1) 7:30 am - 11:00 am & 2) 9:00 am - 12:30 pm



Site Control Crew

These volunteers are responsible for setting up, maintaining, and breaking down equipment at the event. This includes pop-up tents, tables, chairs, and event signage. They will also clean up trash, take down all tents, tables, signs, pack event vehicles and more.


**Please note heavy lifting (20-50 lbs.) is required. **
