| Baby Formula for the Next Two Months!
The Feeding Hungry Babies Program at LIFE/Houston is proud to announce that The Houston Food Bank was able to source over 7,000 lbs of formula for LIFE/Houston at a reduced price. Thanks to this donation, the agency will be saving over $6,500 and will be able to distribute enough formula to feed 600 babies with food for a full week over the course of the next two months. This is a direct result of the strong collaboration between The Houston Food Bank and LIFE/Houston. In addition, almost half of this purchase will be donated by the Houston Junior League. The delivery of over six pallets of formula arrived at LIFE/Houston and the work of offloading the formula and storing it was accomplished in part by 20 girls from the Incarnate Word High School in San Antonio, who were in town for a soccer tournament. They also helped make diaper packages for our clients. With their help, LIFE/Houston will be poised to continue to serve its clients after over 24 years in operation.
Special Projects and Volunteer Opportunities
LIFE/Houston relies on volunteers to serve our clients in need.
Volunteers perform such special projects as assisting with stocking and inventory, delivery of formula, organizing collection drives and working on public relations and promotions.
If you are looking for a meaningful way to make a contribution in the community and you have a flexible schedule, there are a variety of ways you can make a difference and support our programs. Some areas include organizing youth volunteers for collection drives including toys and books, and formula and food drives.
There are a limited number of opportunities available for volunteers under the age of 18 in our office.
To find out more about volunteering, please review our Volunteer Document and contact us by email (www.foodforbabies.org) or at 713-528-6044.
"Times have been rough and it [is] always good to have someone lend you a hand. I've just had my baby 10 days ago and I'm going [through] some money issues, which I know will [be] temporary while I get back on my feet. I really appreciate LIFE/Houston for giving me a hand through these times. Now I know that someday I can give back as well. Thank you. You help is really appreciated.
Sincerely, Kaitlynn y Maria" (5/27/2011)
